Mercy Finally decides to deliver.
When we came home from Church there was a car in our driveway. A dear friend drove up from NJ to bring me a carrot cake for my birthday!She arrived before we got there and witnessed the birth of Mercy's twins. Ha! She thought she'd be alone! She was in the middle of having the first twin when Krista peeked in.
We have a concern about these two. It seems they each have their left rear leg bent backwards.Could this be from an odd position in the womb or something else? They are up and walking much improved now. Any thoughts? The ewe lamb is a grey kat and the ram a very serious, sturdy black krunet. Look at that attitude!
I'd give the legs a few days; sometimes it's lax ligaments and tendons that strengthen with time to hold the leg in the proper position.

ReplyDeleteThanks, Michelle, they're doing fine now! Competing in the lamb races too! The ewe's ears are funny though,never saw this in any of our other lambs. What do you think?

ReplyDeleteOne ear sort of flops down more than the other~similar to the sheep we saw at Mount Vernon. Hog Island sheep ,I believe they were. Anyway, not up to the Shetland standard I'm thinking and that concerns me.
Kinda hard to tell from the angle of the photo. Shetland ears ARE supposed to be carried above the horizontal plane, but some are more so than others. I would wait to judge her; they may perk up more just as her legs have strengthened. If they don't, she can always be a fiber pet! But first you could test-breed her to a ram with proper ears to see if she throws good ears, even if hers aren't up to standard.
